Annual General Meeting held on 16 May 2008
The Fifty-Eighth (58th) Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) of Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad was held at Sheraton Subang Hotel on 16 May 2008. The meeting was chaired by Y.A.M. Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Tuanku Ja’afar, Chairman of Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad. He started the meeting by introducing the Board of Directors and Bi Young Chungunco as President & Chief Executive Office (CEO) with effect from 5 May 2008 to succeed Alain Crouÿ.
The AGM continued with the presentation on 2007 results, 2008 priorities and outlook by CEO and CFO. The questions and answers session was well handed by the board members present. The shareholders of the Company approved all the Ordinary and Special Resolutions which were tabled thereat as set out in the Notice convening the AGM.
Lafarge Malayan Cement receives Industry Excellence Award and Merdeka Award
Industry Excellence Award
Based on the latest Malaysia 1000 ranking exercise, Lafarge Malayan Cement has been selected to receive the Industry Excellence Award for construction sector.
The selection was made by an independent panel chaired by YBhg Tan Sri Mohd Jawhar Hassan, Chairman & CEO of ISIS Malaysia with YBhg Datuk Abdul Rahman Sulaiman, Director of Communication, Economic Planning Unit of Prime Minister’s Department and Encik Abdul Wahab Jaafar Sidek, CEO Minority Shareholder Watchdog Group as members.
The Industry Excellence Award is based on the equal weightage of the company’s best performance of the following financial factors:
1. Percentage increase of Turnover
2. Percentage increase of Profit
3. Return on Capital Employed
4. Return on Shareholders’ Funds
Merdeka Award
This award was presented to Lafarge Malayan Cement as it is amongst a selected number of corporate bodies which have contributed significantly to the economic growth and the well-being of the people in Malaysia since their inception more than 50 years ago.
